In 2020, when a new infectious disease was spreading, the government requested businesses to implement infection control measures. To support this, an online-distributed, rainbow-colored “Infection Prevention Declaration Sticker” was introduced for stores and facilities that met specific checklist criteria. However, even though restrictions such as closing hours and alcohol service bans have since been lifted, these stickers continue to be displayed at many establishments. Their continued presence detracts from the aesthetics of beautifully designed spaces and stores, contributing to a negative image of Tokyo.
This prototype project seeks to transform these essentially obsolete stickers—still found at nearly 80,000 locations across the city—into gateways to entertainment. By turning the rainbow motif into an AR marker, event flyers and AR content can be overlaid onto these stickers throughout Tokyo. The aim is to reimagine these negative, bureaucratic public artifacts as portals into entertainment content, exploring a new form of cultural transformation.
