Takaya Mitsunaga, the creator of the Berlin Wall digitization project BERLIN WALL ONLINE (https://www.instagram.com/berlinwall_online/), will hold an offline solo exhibition titled “BERLIN WALL TOKYO” in Omotesando, Tokyo, from Tuesday, November 9 to Sunday, November 14.
The project brings the world’s largest outdoor gallery — the Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery) — into the heart of Tokyo through data visualization. Standing approximately 3 meters tall and spanning several hundred meters in width, the wall will be recreated using 8K projection in a scrolling video format based on panoramic image data stitched together. This allows viewers to experience the full scope of the artwork that social media can only ever show in fragments.
A new limited-edition product called “THE BERLIN TAPE”, a 1/200 scale masking tape version of the mural spanning hundreds of meters, will also be available for purchase. All proceeds will be donated to organizations working to preserve the Berlin Wall.
Originally launched on November 9, 2019, marking the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, BERLIN WALL ONLINE has engaged in global dialogue with tourists from around the world. This exhibition will showcase that communication as an installation, transforming digital experiences from the COVID era into a warm, physical space — turning a symbol of division into a symbol of connection.
