Over the past few years, as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe, restrictions silenced the cheers and voices of audiences at various events. In 2023, as COVID-19 was reclassified to Category 5 in Japan and cheering gradually resumed at venues worldwide, HYTEK and Hakuhodo I Studio came together to create a new experience that would make entertainment events even more enjoyable. They developed “Yell Selfie,” a unique installation designed to visualize the act of cheering—something we had almost forgotten—and turn it into a lasting memory.

Yell Selfie is a new interactive experience that visualizes audience cheers and captures the moment as a keepsake. When participants shout a keyword into a megaphone on the count of “3, 2, 1!”, their cheers trigger the camera shutter. The moment their cheers reach peak volume is captured, and a photo card is printed on the spot as a memorable souvenir. The keyword and card design can be customized to suit the event—whether it’s a message to a favorite artist at a festival or passionate support for a team at a sports game.

Additionally, the moment of cheering is recorded and stored in a database. These collected cheers are then displayed on the venue’s screens or digital signage, layering voices and smiles to create a sense of unity and amplify the energy of the entire event. Yell Selfie aims to become a powerful tool that brings people together through shared moments of joy and excitement.
